If you’ve made it through the first week, it’s time for action. We have a principle at Physiology First University know at the “Go First Principle.” Everyone is waiting for someone else to start something, to make a move, or to take a stand. The key to leadership in community based health is to be that someone and to go first.

If you’ve invited a friend into your mental fitness practice (lesson 7)-fantastic! If you haven’t yet, now is the time to start.

Announce your pop-up campus as a small, informal gathering for friends and family or as a formal community event. (One of the challenges with community events is to be certain that you can commit every week. It can be super hard to get people to attend a new group. If an event is held consistently you will get important data on what is working and what isn’t. Is your messaging resonating with your community? Is the event gaining interest but the timing not working out? Do you need to add more clarity on what the event is in order to gain traction?

Stress and anxiety are running rampant in communities like yours and mine. The data shows that declining mental health will be one of the greatest problems of the 21st century. There are people in your community that you can help with your offering. This is the part of the program where going first and reaching our to those people is the most effective step towards impact that you can make.

If you feel like you’re not ready-there’s a good chance you will always feel like you’re not ready. You are armed with a simple audio breathing track, your own experience of using breath to relax your body and mind, and any of the resources in our curriculum that you need to put together a short talk. GO FOR IT!

The next portion of the Ambassador Academy will be focused on exercise and setting up family friendly fitness offerings. Sometimes people need a hook that they already understand (boot camp or group run as opposed to breathing for stress mastery class) in order to get started on their journey to improved health. Pump your breath offering, learn how you can improve your messaging, and gain the skills to advance this practice into a full body training experience if a.) the group grows and wants to begin a movement practice together b.) the community does not initially respond to your breath class and you want to begin promoting a fitness offering that is physiology based.

Expect to learn the ins and outs of coaching small group classes over the next week or so and look forward to putting this skillset into your arsenal as a future PF ambassador!
