Daily Brain Freeze: 9/30

It used to be thought that the euphoria from exercise was due to a rush of endorphins-but, recent research shows that endorphins don’t cross the blood brain barrier.

The reason we feel good after exercise is due to chemicals known as endocannabinoids-the same chemicals mimicked by cannabis.

“Areas of the brain that regulate the stress response, including the amygdala and prefrontal cortex, are rich in receptors for endocannabinoids. When endocannabinoid molecules lock into these receptors, they reduce anxiety and induce a state of contentment. Endocannabinoids also increase dopamine in the brain’s reward system, which further fuels feelings of optimism.” -Kelly McGonical, PHD, Stanford University

The combo of short term euphoria and long term brain changes is a brilliantly designed recipe for adherence to exercise🧠💪🏽🔥
